How to become a member of the Introduced Fish Section:

To become a member of the Introduced Fish Section, you must be a current member of the American Fisheries Society.  If you are a member in good standing of AFS, you can then select the section as a membership option from the AFS website.  The cost of joining the Introduced Fish Section is an additional $5 beyond the annual AFS membership fee.

Benefits of IFS membership:

Joining the section means becoming part of a community of people interested and invested in the effects of fish introductions.  You will be able to attend section meetings and vote on decisions made by the section as a whole as well as selecting the executive committee.   Once you have joined the section, you can also become a part of the IFS group on Yahoo, which allows you to join the Introduced Fish Section listserv.  Being part of the listserv is a great way to stay current on news and scientific developments dealing with introduced fish as well as a variety of related topics.

The IFS Yahoo group:

Joining the aquatic introductions Yahoo group means that you receive all messages sent out to the section at large, and that you can post your own questions or messages if you have something that you would like to share with the group.  This will keep you apprised of current events in the world of fish introductions and related research and policy issues.  Once you have joined the section, you can submit your name to the listserv moderators through the Yahoo page and you will be added to the list, generally within a few days.

Award eligibility:

Student members of the section are also eligible to receive the section’s Student Travel Award, which will be given to one student each year at the AFS annual meeting.  Information on how to apply can be found here.

How to join the IFS listserv:

To join the Yahoo group, you can either go to Yahoo.com and search within groups for “aquatic_introductions” to find the IFS group, or you can click on the “Join listserv” link at the bottom of the page.  This will take you there directly.  Currently only section members are able to join the listserv.
